Meet the MEDEX team:

Bryan Y. Williamson, MBA, CMPE - President
Bryan graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.A. in Finance, International Relations and Chinese. He received his MBA from the University of Southern California. He is also credentialed as a Certified Practice Management Executive (CMPE) through the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA).

Prior to forming MEDEX Practice Solutions, Bryan was a Sr. Administrator for St. Joseph'’s Medical Resources, a regional MSO he helped form in 1993. His primary responsibilities included the development and management oversight of the business and operations for 46 newly formed practices including administration of a 14 member primary care group in Merced, CA. Previously, as Director of Physician Services for the St. Joseph’s Regional Health System, Bryan managed the recruitment and integration process for 28 new physicians to San Joaquin County and played a key role in organizing, implementing and managing the successful start-up of a 22 member primary care group in Stockton, CA. Bryan began his career in practice business management as a Sr. Consultant for the Camden Group in Los Angeles. He negotiated the acquisition of 18 practices and set up 85 new solo and small group practices in turn-key offices. In addition, he facilitated the strategic planning, development and management for 5 primary care centers in Southern California, including three timeshare medical offices.


 
Stephen F. Hammarstrom, MHA - Vice President
Steve graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Sociology and from Chapman University with a Masters of Health Care Administration degree and is a Franklin Covey certified personal coach. Steve brings to MEDEX a varied and impressive background in business start-up, development, management, teaching, training and personal coaching.

Steve'’s last position was with Franklin Covey where he coached students in personal development, real estate and investment strategies. Earlier experience focused on the recruitment of sales representatives for a national company where Steve’s primary responsibilities included hiring and training, team building, sales training and customer service and retention. Steve’s business and staff training experience have given him the tools necessary to provide quality training and consultative services to physicians in all aspects of their private practice. Steve’s primary responsibility with MEDEX is to manage the company’s consulting division.


 
Phyllis Waters - Vice President
Phyllis began her medical billing career in 1984 with a large Family Practice Group in Modesto, CA. The group consisted of eight family practice physicians, three general surgeons, an orthopedic surgeon, and two registered nurse practitioners. In this assignment, Phyllis gained extensive experience in virtually all aspects of medical practice billing, including Medicare, Medi-Cal, PPO, HMO, Capitated Plans, Workers Compensation, Third Party and Private Pay. Prior to joining MEDEX, Phyllis worked at National Health Plans. During her four years with NHP, she was Team Lead in the Member Services Department and later promoted to Service Representative in the Provider Relations Department which included working closely with providers and patients resolving more serious complaints, claims and eligibility issues.

At MEDEX, Phyllis is directly responsible for billing operations, including coding and credentialing. She supervises several operations managers and has daily contact with multiple supervisors and billing representatives.


 
Leigh C. Cornell, MHA - Sr. Consultant, Southern California
Leigh completed undergraduate degrees in Communications and Biology and then completed a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration all at the University of Southern California.

Upon completion of her studies, Leigh spent several years working with a large community hospital in Southern California where she was responsible for physician recruiting and retention. She has also worked in rehabilitation services overseeing the fiscal operations of a physical and occupational therapy business. At MEDEX, Leigh manages the Southern California region for new physician practices and business plan creation.
